Woodmere Hügel Garden Sculpture
La Cresta is a sculpture combining logs, metal, and plants. It derives its form from an ancient northern European raised bed planting structure composed of layers of decomposing logs and compostable materials covered in soil. The decomposing materials create a heated environment allowing an extended growing season in colder climates. Rather than a single straight line structure of a consistent height from front to rear, my hugels are a pair of undulating serpentine forms measuring more than 50 feet in length. My intent was to animate this form , representing the evolving landscape. Plantings were chosen not only for their form and beauty but for their durability in a harsh environment shared with multiple species of animals and birds.
